This paper will report preliminary results of a systematic review completed between January 2013 and March 2013. To identify the treatments provided; diagnostic tools used, and lived-experiences of individuals aged 18 years and over diagnosed with schizophrenia or psychotic disorder in Sub-Saharan Africa. Many studies have been conducted in sub-Saharan African countries that do not make it into the standard databases that are used by western world researchers. By expanding our search to include journals that African researchers publish in we were able to gain access to a large body of research relevant to the care of people with schizophrenia
